Biography
Chris Fair is the only comedian he knows of from his hometown. He grew up with a speech impediment in St. Charles, a western suburb of Chicago, IL. He worked through his oral disadvantage while knowing at the same time that it was comedy gold. Then one day late in High School while making a cute girl laugh in Photography class, he realized people laughed when he talked and not just because he occasionally mispronounced some of his words. That's when Chris realized he wanted to bring himself to the stage to be a stand up comedian...but first he had to conquer his fear of public speaking and of course get a college degree in communications.
He picked the entirely wrong college to attend in order to pursue his dream of stand up comedy, Northern Illinois University out in the Boonies of De Kalb, IL. Chris hit up every open mic in the 10 mile radius he could find but still couldn't get enough stage time. He even produced his own shows called “The Comedy Fair” at the House Café in De Kalb in order to perform comedy for a real audience. Once he had a decent class schedule, Chris took his way to Chicago every week to open mics where he met many of his future co-workers. He attended Dobie Maxwell's beginning comedy class at Zanies but accidentally mentioned that he wasn't even old enough to walk into the club. He returned at age 21 and took Dobie's intermediate class to kill at his graduation performance.
Chris then picked up an internship at the comedy club, Comedy Comedy Live at Walter Payton's Roundhouse in Aurora. It was supposed to be a TV Show but then turned into an improv group that evaporated before his very eyes. Everyone but Chris quit because they seemed to have their own communication and childish problems. Now a Stage Managing "Show Business" internship, Chris served well while taking mental notes of every comedian’s performance as he was given stage time to help work on his five minute act about growing up with a speech impediment.
Chris’s five-minute act has grown to nearly twenty minutes about various topics including work, dating, stalking, various situational and observational humor including naming his unborn children. He has taken his time working around clubs and showcases around the Chicago area creating laughter all the way. Chris Fair is a firm believer that life is a joke but it all depends how you tell it.
